The Rangers appear to be in command of their Eastern Conference finals series with the Canadiens after taking the first two games of the series in Montreal to go up 2-0.
Much of that success has been attributed to Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist, who has made 60 saves in the two games for a 1.50 goals against average and .952 save percentage for the series.
Just don’t tell that to P.K. Subban.
The Montreal defenseman told reporters after his team’s 3-1 loss in Game 2 on Monday that Lundqvist has been “getting a little bit lucky” after the Habs put 41 shots on goal in the series’ second game.
‘’Sometimes the puck just doesn’t go in,” Subban said. “In the past, we’ve done those same things and the puck’s gone in. So, I mean, is [Lundqvist] playing well? Yeah, but we’re doing a good job. Some of it is luck, as well. He’s getting a little bit lucky, but that’s what you need in the playoffs.”
By the time the Rangers were made aware of these comments on Tuesday morning, they had already moved on to Thursday’s Game 3 in New York.
“I don’t really think about what’s in their head, what is their approach. I don’t really care,” said Lundqvist, who has saved 162 of 168 shots with a 1.20 goals-against average and .964 save percentage in the Rangers’ five-game winning streak. “I try to just focus on what I have to do, really.”
